We decided early on in our planning for this year that installing the upper level windows and doors would be the first project we tackled this spring. We thought we would ease into projects and take things slow so as not to overwhelm ourselves in the process. You know what they say about the best laid plans though.
We did, indeed, start with ordering the windows back in January, but we then quickly learned that we needed to install the new subfloor first so we could see where the door would properly sit. Ok, that makes sense. But then we would need to first fix the leaking roof so that our new floors wouldn’t get ruined with water. And the person doing the floors was also doing the ceiling downstairs, so we better just get him to do both things at the same time. Of course the contractors doing the window installation were also constructing the new interior staircase, so that would have to be started together too. So much for one project; we suddenly had nearly all our plans happening all at once!
The good news is that much of our work will be completed ahead of the planned schedule. Now that the window installation is complete, it also completes the exterior view of the front of the barn! The visual that you see now as you come in the driveway is so much more polished, and the light that enters upstairs is just incredible. (The completed upper level will be a post for another day though).
I always enjoy taking a look back at where we started, so take a look back down memory lane and enjoy these before and after photos of the dairy barn exterior!
