Meredith and Matt’s summer wedding was a beautiful combination of simple, modern color palette and military wedding traditions. With a couple of fun surprise towards the end of the night!
All of their wedding festivities took place here at 48 Fields in Leesburg, Virginia. First, they got ready in the renovated farm house, which was designed specifically to accommodate wedding parties.
GETTING READY
Meredith and her bridesmaids wore matching robes and took photos on the wraparound porch. Meredith then dressed in a wedding gown with a modern lace top and a full, tiered tulle skirt. Our favorite part of Meredith’s outfit was her shoes, low block heels with ribbons that tied around her ankles. She wore her hair half up and curly. Her bridesmaids, in long, light taupe dresses, wore their hair in a matching twisted style.
Matt gifted his groomsmen with “bulletproof” highball glasses (featured in our list of Gift Ideas for Groomsmen). He looked handsome in his black and white Marine Corps dress uniform. His groomsmen coordinated with him in their dress uniforms or classic black suits.
The couple met on the porch for their first look, giving them a few special moments alone together before their ceremony.
INDOOR CEREMONY IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA
Meredith and Matt said “I do” in the lower level of the dairy barn, surrounded by family and friends.
As their guests entered, they were invited to sign a cookbook that served as the couple’s guest book. We just love this unique and personal guest book idea for couples who love to cook!
The ceremony took place in front of a simple wood arbor backdrop with white fabric and florals. Meredith and her bridesmaids carried simple white and green bouquets that they made themselves using flowers from Trader Joe’s and Costco.
During the ceremony, Meredith and Matt washed each other’s feet. This is a tradition practiced by some Christian couples symbolizing how they will continue to serve each other throughout their married life.
At the end of their ceremony, the newly married couple got to participate in another tradition – that of exiting through a sword arch into their new marriage!
BARN WEDDING RECEPTION
The couple and their guests then headed to the upper level of the dairy barn for their reception. The theme of soft neutrals and greenery carried through, with the magical addition of fire light from the abundance of floating candles. Toasts, dinner, and dancing made this a celebration to remember. The couple cut their cake with a saber in the military style, and Matt accompanied one of his groomsmen for a special musical performance.
During their reception, Meredith and Matt stepped away for portraits in the fields at sunset, making for some of the most beautiful photos of the day.
The couple spent the rest of the evening on the dance floor, only pausing for a late night snack of Auntie Anne’s pretzels and a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream cart. And they ended the night with a sendoff through a tunnel of glow wands!
We hope you enjoy these photos as much as we enjoyed hosting Meredith and Matt’s wedding day. For more military wedding inspiration, take a look at Sarah and Michael’s burgundy and rose vintage-inspired military wedding.
