A Retro Wedding in the Northern Virginia Countryside Allison and Will

Allison and Will took the best the 1960s and 70s had to offer and created a moody, retro wedding here at 48 Fields. From Allison’s simple long-sleeve dress and vintage-style chunky white ankle boots to the warm fall color palette, it was a day that would have made Twiggy proud!

GETTING READY

Allison and Will got ready for their day in our fully renovated farm house. Allison wore her hair in a laid back, half-up hairstyle perfect for the throwback vibe of the day.

For a modern twist on the classic, Allison’s attendants wore black, floor-length bridesmaid dresses with sheer sleeves. They also carried rust orange and dusty green florals to complete the look.

Once she was ready, Allison met her dad for a super sweet first look in front of the farm house. She then met Will near our ceremony patio for an emotional first look. You only need to see the first look photos to know how loved Allison is. Both reactions were priceless!

COZY INDOOR CEREMONY

Next, the happy couple joined their guests in the lower level of the dairy barn for their ceremony. In keeping with the cozy fall mood, they offered hot apple cider and a homey, eclectic collection of mugs that also served as favors.

When their guests entered, they were greeted by whimsical handwritten signage with light wood and vintage-style floral illustrations. Even their custom guest book and vow books had a 1960s vibe!

And this was only the start of the fun. At the beginning of their ceremony, instead of traditional flower girls, they had flower grandmothers! Allison and Will had a light-hearted and emotional ceremony in front of a moon gate decorated with fall florals and surrounded by their nearest and dearest.

RETRO WEDDING RECEPTION

After the ceremony and an outdoor cocktail hour, the group proceeded upstairs to a barn reception.

Warm grey-beige linens, greenery, amber glass, playful calligraphy place cards, and gold accents decorated the guest tables. And it’s only fitting that Allison and Will chose pampas grass, which first gained popularity in the 1970s for interior decor and is having a resurgence for modern boho weddings, to complete their reception decor.

For such a fun-loving couple, it’s no surprise that Allison and Will spent most of the evening on the dance floor! They even had some special guests tune into the reception virtually and join in the fun. At the end of the night, the happy couple made their grand exit through a tunnel of glow wands.
